Robinho Reveals Barcelona Dream

September 9th, 2009 No comments

ROBINHO is on a collision course with Mark Hughes after revealing he would love to play for Barcelona.

The Spanish giants were linked with a summer switch for the Manchester City and Brazil star.

But an offer failed to materialise after they splashed the cash on striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Robinho has sparked further speculation a January move could be on the cards by revealing his love for the European champions.

And that is sure to infuriate City boss Hughes, who is desperate to keep his best players.

Ex-Real Madrid ace Robinho, 25, said: “It’s not easy to say no to a team like Barcelona.

“They are the European champions. It is a beautiful city and I like Spain a lot.

“I have always wanted to play at clubs like Barcelona.

“It’s a great club, any player would be happy for them to show an interest.

“I am happy that a club like them have noticed me.

“Who would not want to play for a club alongside Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Ibrahimovic and all the others.

“I like Barcelona, they’re a great club.”

Barca Rule Out Robinho

September 2nd, 2009 No comments

BARCELONA have ruled out an 11th-hour summer raid for Manchester City star Robinho.

The Spanish giants had been linked with a shock move for the former Real Madrid forward.

But after landing Ukrainian centre-back Dmytro Chygrynskiy for £22million, Barca boss Pep Guardiola insisted his spending is over.

Guardiola said: “Something extraordinary will have to happen for someone to come in.

“Robinho will not come. He was the star signing of City last year and it would make no sense that they’d let him go now.”

Guardiola has signed just three players this summer in striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, left-back Maxwell and Chygrynskiy.

He admits his squad is light on numbers but feels Barca’s academy graduates such as Pedro Rodríguez and Jeffren Suarez can fill the gaps.

Treble-winning boss Guardiola added: “The prices being asked for players were exorbitant.

“I have a lot of faith that the young players can help maintain the balance of the team.”
